Stop taking Igbo nation for a ride, politicians warned

By Tony Edike
ENUGU – A chieftain of Action Congress of Nigeria ACN and yet to be
registered All Progressive Congress APC, in Enugu state, Dr. Ben
Nwoye, yesterday, faulted the blanket endorsement of President
Goodluck Jonathan for the second tern describing the act as shameful
and unfortunate and warned Igbo politicians to stop taking the Igbos
for a ride.
Some Igbo politicians from South East states led by former Minister
of Health, Chief Silas Ilo, had at the weekend metin Enugu under the
aegis of "Rebuild Nigeria Initiative project 1″, and resolved to throw
their full weight behind president Jonathan's second term in office.
Ilo, who is the group's caucus chairman in South East zone,
explainedthat they resolved to back Jonathan based on his numerous
achievements as contained in his mid-term report released recently.
But reacting to the decision in a chat with newsmen in Enugu, Dr.
Nwoye, a human Rights activist and lawyer, regretted that
personalities as the former Minister of Health and one time
Military Administrator of Imo state, Commodore Anthony Ogugua could
involve themselves in such a group.
According to him, it is quite unfortunate that those who supposed to
be leaders in Igboland are the ones misleading the people just
because oftheir personal and selfish interest.
Dr. Nwoye, who was the Enugu East senatorial candidate of ACN in
2011, also wondered why any right thinkingfellow or group should be
drumming support for a "president who has nothing to offer, even if
given another chance."While warning Igbo leaders especiallyPDP
politicians to stop taking the Igbo nation for a ride, he enjoined
Ndigbo and Nigerians to embrace APC, saying it remained the only
alternativepolitical platform that has all it takes torescue the
nation from its present political and economic woes occasioned by
PDP's bad governance.
Nwoye said that the Igbo race and Nigeria have brighter future in APC
rather than the ruling PDP, which, he noted, had done more harm than
goodto the nation since it took over mantle of leadership in the
country in 1999.
"The Jonathan PDP led government is a failed government and that is
why we are calling on Nigerians especially the Igbos to embrace APC
because if registered, APC would provide them the platform to run for
any political office as well as wipe away their age-long tears.
He, however, insisted that since the PDP has failed the nation in all
ramification, there is need for all progressives and like minds to
come together and join hands with APC in sending the ruling party
packing come 2015.
