‘Stop talking about coruption, evolve practical solution’

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Joe Gadzama, has called on the
judiciary to evolve practical ways to tackle corruption in the
profession rather than just condemning it.
Gadzama told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that erring
judicial officers should be adequately punished to deter others, while
those who had performed excellently shouldbe rewarded.
"We have to stop talking from both sides of our mouth; we have to work
the talk and do what we are saying rather than being too theoretical.
"We know what to do to fight corruption, punish the erring ones
amongst us,'' he said.
He said that agencies saddled with the responsibility to punish erring
officers should not allow primordial factors to serve as barrier to
the sanctioning of corrupt officers.
Gadzama said, "Ensure that you don't allow primordial factors to come
between you and the perpetrators of corruption.
"You don't begin to say because you belong to the same tribe, to the
same alumni association or to the same religion, you cannot punish the
erring person.
"You must ensure that justice is done to all manner of persons.
"Whoever deserves to go behind bars, goes there; whoever is supposed
to enjoy free air and walk freely on the Nigerian soil does that."
